Odin Sphere Review (Ps2)

vid upped by duckroll

A 2D fantasy action RPG with an emphasis on battle tactics and elaborate storytelling. A pretty exceptional offering and perhaps the last great RPG for the Ps2.
Scoring 84% from 38 reviews on Metacritic.com

Ps2 Reviews Summary
As close to perfection as you're going to get on the PS2
Never have I seen a game so visually pleasing.
A fun game with solid concepts, along with a great musical score and interesting plot.
Animations and graphics all that is worth recommending.
Unique, deep battle and level system, a good storyline, interesting characters and well balanced gameplay
They don't make too many like it anymore.
Repetition is frustratingly similar to that of countless other games
40+ hour adventure, one of the best RPGs to come out on the PS2 in a while

Fallout 3 Screenshots (xbox 360, Ps3)

Fallout 3 is an RPG currently under development by Bethesda Softworks, for PC, Xbox 360 and Ps3. Set for release in US in March 2008 TBA for Europe. Bethesda have stated that the game will be rated M for mature, and will have the same sort of adult themes, violence, and depravity that are characteristic of the Fallout series. Fallout 3 will use a version of the same Gamebryo engine as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and is being developed by the team responsible for that game.

Rebuild of Evangelion is an announced Tetralogy of animated films in the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion. The first three movies will be an alternate retelling of the TV series (including new scenes, settings, backgrounds, characters), and the fourth movie will be a completely new conclusion to the story.

The trailer for the first instalment of the four films has been added to the official Evangelion website but they've gone ahead and made it unplayable for anyone outside Japan. tut!

Luckily Seamus the Leprechaun was on hand with his screwdriver to sort out the problem, with a little help from youtube.

Louis Armstrong Mack the Knife 1959

Fortunately for you the humour grabs me only every other month, yes folks elderly inflicts another "inappropriate" retro video post.

Louis Armstrong, one of the most famous jazz musicians of the 20th century, and considered by some to have essentially invented jazz singing.

Mack the knife was originally titled "Die Moritat von Mackie Messer" which premiered in Berlin in 1928. In 1960 Ella Fitzgerald made a famous live recording in which, having forgotten the lyrics after the first verse, she successfully improvised new lyrics in a performance that earned her a Grammy.

Eternal Sonata (xbox 360)

It could only originate in Japan, Chopin (yes the famous composer) lying on his deathbed enters a dream world, where he possesses the gift of magic. In this land, however, magic is the side effect of a terrible and fatal disease. Those who can wield magic are shunned and feared so they tend to keep their powers a secret.

Now it so happens that in this dream world inside Chopin's head, lives an evil count (thank heavens for spellchecks), who has been oppressing the people with extreme taxes that are creating quite a bit of poverty and unrest This is when Chopin enters to save the day.

30+ hours of RPG heaven it appears, with the title at number 2 in the Japanese game charts. Due US and Europe September 2007 for Xbox 360, aka Trusty Bell: Chopin's Dream, Trusty Bell: Chopin no Yume

Project Sylpheed Arc of Deception (Xbox 360)

Seamus the Leprechaun here, blest blogger on the netherly gamer.

Despite it's release in Europe on June29th last and it's release today in the US, the number of reviews available for Project Sylpheed are worryingly scarce, methinks the critics are all too busy getting ready for E3 which starts today. Incidentally I wasn't invited, but I did get a hold of the conference timetable. oh well!! it wouldn't have been the same without the booth babes. Where was I? oh yes. . . . .

Project Sylpheed is 3-D makeover of the classic, mid-‘80s scrolling shooter franchise. As Katana Faraway (. . . i checked and yes that is his name), players must pilot a Delta Saber space fighter equipped with a highly customizable arsenal of weapons. In order to succeed, Katana must execute squadron commands and monitor their speed, shield, radar and weapons as they maneuver out of challenging situations and defend Earth against the evil ADAN forces.

Scoring 70% from just 3 reviews on Metacritic.com

Reviews Summary
Project Sylpheed is a very decent shoot-'em-up, full of spectacular set-pieces and blessed with tight controls, but it lacks real depth
This game ably fills a gaping whole in one of gaming's most pure and heady genres
If you like space shooters then Project Sylpheed is well worth a look

Ninja Gaiden Sigma (Ps3) Review

Hi folks Seamus here, leprechaun and guest blogger on the Flaccid Gamer. Well it appears that Team Ninja have done the business, not that there was much to do given that Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a a remake of Ninja Gaiden Black, a game which in itself had the critics standing on their seats.

The remake brings with it new moves, actions, and weapons for Hayabusa. Also added is a new playable character Rachel, one of the series' heroines, and when using her, you'll get to experience the storyline from her perspective. But there is a darkside to Rachel the demon hunter:
She is playable in only 3 of her own chapters and 11 missions in Mission Mode
For weapons, she can only use her warhammer.
For projectiles, she can only use her whip, the Peluda Tail.
And Whereas Ryu unlocks costumes, she can obtain 7 hairstyles (besides her default hairstyle).

Bummer I'm sure you'll agree, unless of course your into hair. Contrary to the "more complete" version promotion, they in fact took some stuff out, yup kid you not, take a wander over to Wikipedia for the full list of things that are missing.

Scoring 89% from 18 reviews on Metacritic.com
Reviews Summary
A strong case can be made for Ninja Gaiden being the greatest action game ever made.
The same meal you've eaten before -- albeit with lots of garnish
The best version released so far one of the most intense experiences on a console.
An immersive action romp full of original challenges, incredible environments and interesting characters.
Punishingly, mercilessly, remorselessly ferocious. You will never, ever finish it. Until you learn to block. Genuinely new content doesn't exactly abound

Unsociable Gamers, Violence and M rated Games

Video gamers it appears lead healthy social lives and gaming itself is a highly social activity, according to none other than the American Medical Association.

"Contrary to the stereotype of the solitary gamer with no social skills, we found that children who play M-rated games are actually more likely to play in groups - in the same room, or over the internet," says Olson. "Boys' friendships in particular often centre around video games."

A second survey of young gamers by Massachusetts Centre for Mental Health found two-thirds of boys and one in four girls played at least one M-rated game "a lot in the past six months." even though the rating should restrict their access to such games. The Grand Theft Auto franchise was the most popular game with boys, and the second-most popular with girls.

"Violent game play is so common, and youth crime has actually declined, so most kids who play these games occasionally are probably doing fine.

Hello tis Seamus here, and as promised a selection of photos from this mornings Elderly Gamer promotional photoshoot. The Last Remnant (Ps3, Xbox 360) First Look

Following Gnomes extraordinary post on LOTR Shadows of Angmar, I decided it was time to shake things up a little here on the Elderly Gamer. But with three new garage kits awaiting assembly, The Darkness on by 360 turntable, a bargain bin copy of Rumble Roses in my trusty Ps2, I decided I'd shake things up some other time.

So in time honoured elderly tradition, straight from the inbox on IGN a turn based RPG ("pushing the limits of artistry and technology") from Square Enix , in Simultaneous development on both xbox 360 and Ps3 and set for an equally simultaneous release date in US and Japan, erm... sometime in 2008.

To summarise, unreal engine 3 powered RPG, set in a World where remnants, "mysterious artifacts from an ancient civilization have been scattered far and wide." People fighting over them, a lone hero (you) battling through "a real battlefield experience", which though turn based, will be "reactionary". Yep I'm as wise as when i started, but IGN do have more screenshots!!!
